Subject: C API Backward compatibility
Feedback Type: Problem
Product Area: Notes 8 Client
Technical Area: Functionality
Platform: ALL
Release: Beta 2
Reproducible: Always

I know there is a thread on C-API but I felt this was a subtlely different point.

Old C-API applications are linked with nnotes.dll to provide access to the API.

As such I don't see how any old C-API programs can work with the Eclipse based client as this DLL no longer exists.

For example, the Blackberry Synchroniser fails to find nnotes.dll and quits. I cannot see how R8 client will ever support old C-API applications. Therefore any UI addins such as view export DLLs, and many other C-API based addins can no longer work.

Is this just a Beta issue? Or will all old C-API applications need re-compiling with the new R8 libraries.

Currently we are trying to work it out by keeping an old R7 client on the machine, but this will still be problematic as the local address books are different.

Cheers

Simon
